Spanish Potato Omelet
Food is Culture. Food is very important in the lives of most families in America because it displays unity, tradition, and heritage. Culture has alot to do with family. Food can be passed down from generation to generation. I am mixed with African American, Caucasian, Native American and Hispanic. A specific culture I want to talk about is the Spanish culture. It is very flamboyant culture with alot of exotic foods with spicy ingredients and a distinct language. The reason why i'm interested in this culture is I am part Hispanic and what to learn more about the traditions, people, language, and food.
A Spanish recipes I found is called a Spanish Potato Omelet. This is a Spanish style omelet with crisy fried potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and green onions. The reason why I choose this recipe because I never heard of it and it has nice vibrant colors. The actual recipe for how to make it is simply. The ingredients are:
1) 1/2 cup olive oil
2) 1/2 pound potatoes, thinly sliced
3) salt & pepper
4) 1 large onion, thinly sliced
5) 4 eggs
6) 2 tomatoes - seedless & chopped
7) 2 green onions - chopped
Directions: In a large frying pan or skillet, heat olive oil over medium - high heat. Sprinkle potatoes lightly with salt and pepper. cook until golden brown and crisp. Once the potatoes are golden brown, stir in the onions. Cook occasionally until onions are slightly brown. Meanwhile, beat eggs togehter with some salt and pepper, Pour the eggs into the pan and stir gently to combine. Reduce heat to low and cook the eggs are alittle brown on the bottom. Finally, loosen bottom of omelet with a spatula, put a large plate over the pan, and carefully turn the omelet out onto it. Slide the omelet back into the pan with the uncooked side down. cook until eggs are set, then garnish the omelet with more tomatoes and onions and serve warm.
