What Food Means to Me
Food is a substance that you put in your body to help you survive. Food is delicious and full of nutrition. I think it is important to eat a healthy or balanced meal to energies you and keep you focused. In Massimo Montanari's essay Food Is Culture, he states that "the table is a metaphor life." I think Montanari means that if you live together you eat together. He also states that sharing the same foods mean you one belongs to the same family. Family is a community that lives together and has a special relationship.
During the holidays or special occasions, my family and I get together and fellowship and discuss plans, ideas and share what's going on in our lives. We all sit at different tables that are set up and eat, talk and laugh. Everyone in my family makes a dish to bring. My grandpa brings over the cooked turkey, chicken, or ham. My mom cooks the green beans, stuffing and rolls. My aunt makes this dish called jello pudding. My uncle makes the max & cheese and my cousin makes this amazing marshmallow brownie desert. Sometimes help my mom with the vanilla cake with chocalate icing. This is one of my favorite deserts that I love to have during the holidays.
When my family and I have cookouts or parties, we invite friends at our house. We have all different types of food thats cooked on the grilled, potato chips, desert and have cold items like potato salad and fruit. Also at my church, we have cookouts and parties whenever something special or important is going on like our church anniversary, picnic, or harvest festival. We all have conversations and play lots of exciting games.
Food brings people together. I enjoy sitting around the table with my family to eat meals. Eating breakfast, lunch or dinner is a time where we gather together and have good conversation. We talk about or day, tell important information, and discuss different topics. Eating meals at the table brings tradition and comfort. Whenever there are holidays, cookouts, or parties, I like being with family, friends or church members to laugh, hang out, and have fun. Food fills you up to statisfy you and makes you have fun.
